Back links are necessary if you want to optimize your site for search engines.
Search engines can find your site easier if there are other sites linking to – pointing toward – your website. These ‘back links’ can be an important part of your SEM and SEM marketing strategy.
Types of links used to improve your search engine optimization and marketing
- Internal Links are links you make on your posts or pages that point to somewhere in your own website.

- External Links are links that point to another site – external links point away from your website.
- Back Links are links that point from someone else’s website to your website.
Easy and legitimate free back links are yours for the taking on Merchant Circle, Google Local Business Center, Yahoo Local, etc.
Some of the many yellow pages-like sites allow you to list your business information at no charge, and that includes a ‘click here’ type inline link to your website.
You can create your free account and update your business information whenever you need.
What’s the catch?
- It will take you a few minutes at each site to create an account and enter the basic information they require.
- Then you’ll get occasional emails notices from them about something. You may want to open a separate email account for yourself to capture all the emails in one place. None of them is likely to be important, and as you know, reading your emails can be an enormous waste of time.
These yellow-page sites get a lot of traffic and tend to rank well, you the backlink from them has value to your own site’s ranking. At the very least you should go to each one, establish profile and create a link from their site to yours.
